Abstract. The article analyzes the key stages of entering of the Latin word «religion» into the Russian intellectual context, which made the word one of the key terms of modern philosophical culture. The paper provides contents of the first uses of the word «religion» in several Russian-language texts of the 14th – 18th centuries. Differentiation of «faith-alien», «faith-palace», and «faith-people» forms happened due to the specific historical context of Russian and European relations. The phenomenological aspect of the problem allowing to reveal the universal maintenance of “the phenomenon of religion per se” in its diverse historical and social “forms of manifestation” directly faces the obvious fact that “religion” is, first of all, the word entering into a row of the known “Russian” sources. The author reveals aspects of philological measurement of religion, which in many respects cause intrinsic features of political, poetic, and sociological measurement of this concept.
