The article examines the relevance of the ideas of Cicero and G.V. Florovsky to understand the development of ideas about the prospects for achieving compliance between charitable activity (caritativity) and religion in Roman, global and Russian culture from the standpoint of philosophical religious studies. The 21st-century scholars seek to interpret the legacy of these two famous intellectuals, elucidating their influence on modern philosophy, theology and law, while facing challenges that include both an abundance and a lack of sources, the complexity of interpreting social processes in relevant eras and the need to actualize the noted ideas in the modern context. Interest in studying the heritage of Cicero and Florovsky is obviously growing, as is the awareness of the need to reassess their contribution to the development of the modern “culture of consent” in the light of the universal concept of “all-unity” (by V.S. Solovyov), the origins of which go back to ancient times.

Key words: Cicero, Florovsky, compliance, philosophical religious studies, religion, caritativity, unity
