The following article considers the history of the Russian-speaking Orthodox parish of Oleshnitsa in the eastern part of Estland province/Estonia. Its novelty lies in the fact that few articles exist on individual Orthodox parishes in the Baltic. The article demonstrates that the life of parishioners and the structure of parish governance underwent profound changes in the period in question. It concludes that studying an individual parish is a viable approach to church history and social history in this period.
Key words: Oleshnitsa, Alajõe, Russian Orthodox Church, Estland province, Estonia, parish
