Maurice Godelier - anthropologist, philosopher, expert in the field of Social Anthropology, Philosophy of History, genesis and development of religion; head of researches at The School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences (EHESS, Paris, France). M. Godelier has conducted field studies in Africa (Mali), has been living and working in Melanesia (New Guinea) for many years, where has been studying tribes which were at an archaic stage of development (first of all – the Baruja tribe). M. Godelier's researches cover a great circle of questions of emergence and development of social institutes (kinship, exchange, tribe, the state, etc.), social form of religion, its essence and forms of expression. Results of researches of M. Godelier are reflected in numerous publications, some of which have become classics of anthropology and religious studies. |
