Both Japan and Vietnam are multicultural and multi-religious nations where Buddhism plays a significant role. Buddhism in these two countries shares many similarities, such as belonging to the Mahayana tradition with various sects, blending and adapting to indigenous beliefs for survival and development, and synthesizing foreign and local elements. Additionally, Buddhism in both Japan and Vietnam is characterized by its engagement with society, playing a crucial role in social life, maintaining close ties with governance, and standing alongside their respective nations in the pursuit of peace and well-being for all beings.
