In pre-revolutionary philosophical literature (N.A. Berdyaev, V.V. Zenkovsky, S.N. Bulgakov, P.I. Novgorodtsev, and others), Bolshevism as a socio-political doctrine was interpreted as a kind of pseudo-religion. The article argues that Christian canonical texts, in their structural and substantive aspects, are comparable to the “sacred writings” of Soviet civil religion. The analysis of such comparisons focuses on dogmatic sources, canonical texts, and instructive literature. The novelty of the research lies in the fact that, in addition to the Bible and ideological texts, cultural sources are used to prove the presented hypothesis – in particular, those related to the poetic work of Soviet poets and folklore.
Key words: cherished book, civil religion, Bible, classics of Marxism-Leninism, culture, quasi-religion
